Fitness

Since coming to College, i have started working out 4-5 times a week. We have team workouts at 7am 3 times a week, where the trainers push at to the maximum. Golf requires a specialized type of fitness, it is not all about lifting weights. The main purpose of improving Fitness, is to allow the body to achieve the positions that golf coaches want to see players in. Any limitations in these areas and the swing will suffer! A lot of golfers swing faults are actually due to physical limitations. A player may go to a coach and try to improve their swing, a lot of the time this is unachievable and so the practice and lessons are in fact a waste of time. 


I have had lot of fitness screenings in the last few years, they are a great help, finding the reasoning for why your body behaves in a certain way. I used a great company in Guildford called Field of Fitness to screen my body, where they showed my limitations and gave me a program to improve these areas.


At Nova we do a lot of running, core work, stretching and a lot of lifting weights. In America the college athletic training system is based on hard work and hard lifting. Although this is not perfect for golf, it is still beneficial. (Below is a picture of our weight room)
